In 1973 Art Haddow was a struggling college student. He was running out of money to pay for college and expressed his concern to roommate Mike Cordell. Mike was working for Bekins Van Lines in Provo and helped get Art a job.

Art has been in the moving business ever since. Over the next 20 years, he moved about in different positions in the industry. He learned how to drive and maneuver big tractors and 48-foot trailers. He learned about dispatching, and how to pack, crate and load the goods. He learned about estimating and billing. He became proficient in securing business as he developed sales skills and advanced from salesman to sales manager and even to regional vice president for a large San Diego-based carrier.

In 1992, Art knew that with his background, experience and business acumen he could make a good living for himself and his family in a business of his own. He scraped together $3,500 and purchased an old moving truck from his former employer. He only had $1,000 left in his account after buying the old piece of equipment, so he started his company with a little office in his home.

Art's wife Debbie was the only other employee, but they had confidence in their abilities and a great desire to succeed. Within a few months, they rented a little warehouse and signed an agreement with Paul Arpin Van Lines, a small Rhode Island-based carrier. Debbie ran the office and Art drove the rigs and did the other work. In 1993, that former college roommate, Mike Cordell, contacted Art and suggested they form a partnership and expand the company. They formed a corporation and Premier Movers was born.

Soon, the company needed to again expand its facilities, and in 1995, it moved into a 45,000-square-foot-facility at 3900 South and 200 East. The company has certainly come a long way since that hungry college student asked his roommate for help in getting a little paycheck.

Premier Movers moved its offices and warehouse to Mesa Arizona on July 1, 2010 after the unexpected death of Mike Cordell. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy and his committment to quality service and honesty will continue in our new operation serving the Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe and Scottsdale communities.
